  Greek Life

Fraternities, sororities, and social clubs were established at Morgan State University as early as 1913 and since then have played an active and vital role in the lives of many of our students.

Currently 20 fraternities, sororities, and social clubs organized into two governing councils provide many Morgan State students with a personal and interactive collegiate experience. Members of fraternities, sororities, and social clubs are active in all aspects of life on campus including clubs and honor societies, major campus entities such as Student Government, Inter-Residence Council, and Morgan State athletic teams. The organizations themselves provide many activities, events, and programs for the entire campus community. If nothing else, Greek Life provides a broad range of opportunities and experiences for its members from which memories and personal growth are just two of the benefits.

National Pan-Hellenic Council
On May 10, 1930, on the campus of Howard University, in Washington DC, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was formed as a permanent organization with the following charter members: Omega Psi Phi and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternities, and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta Sororities. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities joined the Council. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority joined in 1937 and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity completed the list of member organizations in 1997.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated is currently composed of nine (9) International Greek letter Sororities and Fraternities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. The following organizations are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Morgan State University:

Council of Independent Organizations
The Committee on Independent Organizations was formed at then Morgan College during the second semester of the 1964 academic school year. Representatives of the active member organizations, along with the honor societies and departmental clubs were formed that since there was no governing body for these organizations, they would come under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Independent Organizations. It was later decided that the word committee in the title bore the connotation which was inconsistent with the ideas of permanence and longevity: therefore, the governing body would be known as the Council of Independent Organizations or C.I.O.

The Council of Independent Organizations is now made up of the following fraternities, sororities and social clubs:
